Bis zu 300 Tonnen kostbarer Mutterboden gehen im Einzugsgebiet der Jahna, einem Nebenfluß der Elbe, Jahr für Jahr durch Erosion verloren. Ein Informationssystem soll Abhilfe schaffen. Mittels Computer wird analysiert, wie erosionsgefährdet die Fluren sind. Praktisch kommt es jedoch auf die Bodenbearbeitung an. Deshalb informiert ein Beratungsring über erosionsmindernde Methoden, wie Mulchen, Einsäen von Pflanzen oder Liegenlassen von Strohresten und Stoppeln. Der Grundgedanke: Erosionsschutz durch Selbsthilfe. Ziel ist es, das gesamte Einzugsgebiet der Jahna erosionsmindernd zu bewirtschaften.

Tackling erosion through self-help
Up to 300 tons of precious soil is eroded away in the catchment area of the river Jahna, a tributary of the Elbe, year in, year out. An information system is now to help out. A computer is used to analyse how much the open fields are endangered by erosion. However, in practice, this depends on how the ground is prepared. This is why an advisory panel provides information about methods to cut down on erosion - such as mulching, sowing plants and leaving stubble or what is left of straw on the ground. The basic idea is erosion prevention through self-help. The objective is to farm the entire Jahna catchment area in a manner to prevent erosion.
